Design & Drafting

See Your Dreams on Paper First!

Town Toolbox is not your typical handyman or contractor company. With a Bachelors of Science degree in architecture and over 20 years experience in the design and construction industry, Troy Hines (owner and operator), has the skills to not only fix or replace numerous components of your home, or remodel your kitchen and master bath, but also can draw you an entirely new house or small business (up to 20,000 sf for most commercial projects) if you desire. Do you have a vision but need help turning your concept into reality? We have the design skills and experience to form the ideas in your head to a buildable project on paper.

While Town Toolbox is not currently offering general contracting and construction services for new builds or additions, we can provide you with a full set of drawings, which you can use for permitting and obtaining multiple bids from general contractors and sub-contractors. Furthermore, we have a strong knowledge of building codes and standards of construction, which means we can review the work being done on your new home or addition and report to you whether or not it is acceptable.

Please take a moment to review some samples of Troy’s work. If you are ready to start the process of turning your dream into a reality, fill out the contact form with as much information as you can. We will get back to you soon to discuss your project and take the first steps in making your dream a reality.

French Country Styled Residence – University Park, TX

This stately home in the French country style is typical of the high-end quality of design that Troy was a part of at Boerder-Snyder Architects in Dallas, Texas. Complete with a central grand spiral staircase and groin vault ceiling details this home is stunning.

Working closely with the husband and wife duo of architects at BSA, Troy learned a lot about quality design, attention to detail, and gained an appreciation for traditional architecture styles. Traditional architecture design not only connects us to those who came before, but the ornate detailing, even if subtle, tends to feel natural and more human than most modern architecture.

Hearsay Lounge and Restaurant – Arlington, TX

Sophisticated décor, furnishing, and intimate spaces combine to create an ambiance that recalls the time of the speakeasys. Gentle curving walls and ceilings, heavy velvet drapes throughout, accents of bronze and gold, soft accent lighting, and deep rich colored upholstered seating set the mood as the live jazz band takes the stage.

This premiere dining destination in the old Ballpark in Arlington highlights the quality of interior design that Troy was a part of at CHS Architects. Troy worked closely with the principal architect and interior designer at CHS designing and drafting numerous details and interior elevations until everything was just right.

Main 7 Townhomes – Arlington, TX

Designed in “transitional modern style,” this 53 unit development is at the heart of the ongoing invigoration of Arlington’s downtown.

Troy, as project manager and working closely with the principal and the rest of the team at CHS Architects, was integral in the design, drafting of construction documents (3D rendering, site plan, floor plans, elevations, sections and details) and worked closely with all parties involved including the client (Savannah Developers), the City of Arlington, the structural engineer, the civil engineer, and the general contractor (Savannah Contracting).

Hard 8 Pit BBQ – Burleson, TX

At over 15,000 sf Hard 8 is not just a restaurant, it is an experience. You enter the tower, grab a drink at the outdoor bar, and walk to a covered area with 8 large BBQ pits smoking arguably the tastiest BBQ in TX. From there you enter the dining spaces where you’re emerged in an atmosphere of uniquely rustic and whimsical décor, which was impressively selected entirely by the owners.

This was a fun project for Troy to help bring to life. He was the project manager for this project at CHS Architects. He was greatly involved in the design, construction documents (3D rendering, site plan, floor plans, elevations, sections and details), meetings with the clients, coordination and review of the civil engineer’s drawings, the structural engineer’s drawings, the MEP (mechanical, electrical & plumbing) engineer’s drawings (which was an undertaking with all that smoke to control), review of submittals from contractors, and correspondence with the general contractor (Fort Construction).

Oklahoma Country Home

Nestled in 10 acres of the Oklahoma countryside, this striking home had some out-of-the-ordinary requests from the clients. These requests included an attached green house, a root cellar, and a space for a quilting longarm machine. Energy efficiency and self sufficiency were also important to the clients.

Troy designed this project independently for the home owners. He drafted all construction drawings including the 3D rendering, floor plans, exterior elevations, building sections, materials and components schedules, and more.

Worthington Bank – Fort Worth, TX

Serving as the entry point to the prestigious Clearfork / Edwards Ranch planned development of Fort Worth, this building harkens back to the historic “Main St.” office buildings and banks of years past. All the detailing, the columns, the capital, the dentils, and more, are completely created by different strategies of brick coursing.

Deeply involved with all aspects of this project, Troy, while at CHS Architects, worked with the team creating 3D renderings and construction documents (site plan, floor plans, elevations, material and component schedules, sections and details). He also worked closely with all the engineers (reviewing their documents for coordination with the architectural plans and one another) and with the general contractor (Muckleroy and Falls).

Casino Park – Lake Worth, TX

Casino Park includes a Ferris wheel, sand beach, restaurants, dance hall, marina, river boat, two story retail and office buildings, brownstone apartments, hotel and a park. Divided into five phases of development, this project draws visitors to the waters edge with entertainment venues that are connected by a lakeside walkable boardwalk looking out at fantastic views across the water.

Land development site plans were frequent design projects during Troy’s time at CHS Architects. Skillful site planning considers not only the smooth flow of vehicular traffic and places for landscaping, but incorporates design strategies such as focal points, variations in walking and driving surface texture and type, visual and sound screening, shaded areas for respite, parking placement and density, walkability, and much more. This master site plan of Casino Park exemplifies the thoughtfulness Troy strives to incorporate in to urban development and land planning. Persons involved in improving cityscapes or owners of large land holdings should contact us to discuss how we can help.
